Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships 2023 |Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible and qualified for the New Zealand Government Scholarship 2023, applicants are to meet the following standards:

  1. They must come from eligible countries to be qualified to apply for the New Zealand Government scholarship.
  2. The applicants must fill out the online questionnaire to confirm their eligibility. Questions like 
  • The country you are a citizen of; 
  • How long have you been living in your home country; 
  • How much work experience have you acquired; if your country is listed among the eligible countries for the scholarship?

3. Applicants for the New Zealand Government scholarship should be up to 18 years of age before they can apply for the scholarship.

The New Zealand Government offers these Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships:

  1. For undergraduate and postgraduate study

These are complete tertiary scholarships for eligible and qualified international students to study full-time at a New Zealand education institution or a Soothing university.


2. For Short Term Training Scholarships for Pacific and Timor-Leste citizens 

These are for on-the-job work experience for workers and short scholarships for skills training from eligible Pacific countries and Timor-Leste.

3. They are short scholarships for skills training for employees and workers from qualified Southeast Asian countries and Timor-Leste.


4. English Language Training for Officials Scholarships (NZELTO)

They are short scholarships for government officials from eligible and qualified African and Asian countries for English language training in New Zealand.

To apply for a Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship, you must be 18 or older when you start your scholarship. You are 17 years of age when you apply; you should have your 18th birthday before starting your scholarship in semester one.

Benefits of this Scholarship

  1. Complete tuition fees
  2. Living allowance of NZ$480 weekly.
  3. Establishment allowance of NZ$3000 for housing and accommodation expenses, textbooks and other study materials, health or medical and travel insurance, and research and thesis support for most postgraduate research students.

Application Process


The concerned applicants for the New Zealand Government Scholarships 2023 are to fill out an online application by the application deadline. The applicants will be asked to register and start the New Zealand Scholarship Account registration procedure. Applicants are to continue registering for the scholarship account if they are eligible.
