Posted by The Community Scholarship Program of the Lilly Endowment is dedicated to enhancing the state of Indiana’s level of educational attainment, raising awareness of the beneficial roles community foundations in Indiana can play in their neighbourhoods, and supporting efforts made by Lilly Endowment Community Scholars to collaborate with other citizens and state officials to enhance Indiana’s quality of life.
The Endowment believes that Indiana citizens’ and communities’ personal, civic, and economic well-being depends on education at all levels. This initiative aims to persuade many of Indiana’s most gifted youngsters to enroll in a state university and seek professions there.
The 92 county-specific community foundations in Indiana actively enrol in the Community Scholarship Program of the Lilly Endowment, which the Independent Colleges of Indiana run.
Lilly Endowment Scholarship For 2023
Hancock County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship (LECSP) for 2023 will be administered by HCCF. Once again, HCCF can suggest two high school graduates to Lilly Endowment for the four-year tuition scholarship grant. HCCF oversees and carries out the selection procedure.
The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program’s main goals are to:
- Help raise Indiana’s educational attainment level
- This article highlights the significance of community foundations in the state of Indiana
- Both current and former recipients of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholars Program receive encouragement and support in their efforts to network with one another and with Indiana’s business, government, educational, nonprofit, and civic leaders to improve the state of Indiana.
Applications were only accepted by invitation and open on July 20, 2022, and conclude on September 7, 2022, at 4:00 pm. To be eligible for an invitation to apply, candidates must:
- Be a graduate of one of the four Hancock County High Schools by June 30, 2023.
- A resident of Hancock County
- They are in the top 15% of their cohort (weighted GPA) after students from outside of Hancock County have been considered.
School counselling departments will recognize students who meet these requirements, and HCCF will extend an invitation to apply.

The applicant must intend to enrol in a four-year bachelor program at any authorized public or private college or university in Indiana. Online student applications are submitted, and expert readers representing outside-of-county reviewers anonymously (without name or contact information) evaluate them.
Eight finalists are chosen by the third-party committee, two from each public high school in Hancock County, who best match the requirements for the prize. The main requirement for eligibility is community service. For the LECSP, financial necessity is not taken into account.
A volunteer committee chosen by HCCF will interview the eight finalists in late October. The committee members will all abide by a stringent conflict of interest policy. The challenging duty of this committee is to choose two students from the brilliant group of eight finalists and forward their nomination to Lilly Endowment for consideration. The prizes will be revealed in December, pending clearance. At the November board meetings of each school corporation, the eight finalists will be recognized.

Process For Applications
Please read the guidelines for the scholarship:
- To be eligible, candidates must be Noble County residents in their final year of high school who intend to graduate from an Indiana high school by the end of June 2022 and to enrol in a full-time baccalaureate program at an Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university. At the time of application, students must have earned a 3.0 GPA or above in high school, 3.80 on a scale of 4.00. Candidates must provide documentation of their leadership responsibilities, extracurricular activities, employment experience, and community involvement.
- Complete the 3 essays that are needed. There must be 125 to 250 words in each essay.

- To apply, you must have a GPA of 3.80 or above. Your GPA cannot be rounded up.
- Each candidate is required to provide two references and ask for recommendation letters. No relatives may be mentioned. Less than two references may be provided without the student being rejected.
- Please note that ALL candidates must provide their high school GPA, high school rank, and most recent high school transcript with their GPA with their application.

Tips For Application
They value each student’s application and therefore hope the following advice will be helpful:
The screening committee looks for scholarship candidates who demonstrate academic excellence and participation in their schools and communities. Leadership roles within clubs, groups, and sports teams are signs of a suitable candidate. Another approach to strengthening an application is via volunteer work with charities. Some groups, including Black Pine Animal Sanctuary, Humane Society of Noble County, Noble House Ministries, or any of the food banks, to mention a few, nearly constantly require volunteers.
The most crucial requirement is that all applications be submitted electronically before the deadline. After this date, neither scholarship applications nor recommendations will be considered.
